By Miles The Best!

September 28th

I have to start with a hat tip to Ross Miles who made a quite brilliant start to his weekly NFL analysis in ‘Guest Contributions’ last night nailing a 16/1 winner when Julio Jones copped his advice to score two touchdowns or more at 16/1. In addition, all three of his spread bets came in where he went for a bit of extra value rather than the 10/11 take-your-pick lines advising Denver -9 at 9/5, Pittsburgh -5 at 13/8 and Atlanta -4 at 11/8. In fact, if anyone followed him in on the advised 2pts Trixie (paid 38/1) and the two touchdown advices then they would have made a 91 points profit on the night! Like I wrote in the introduction, I haven't selected any old charlies to provide content for 'Guest Contributions', only carefully chosen people who I trust and are experts in their field knowing their subjects inside out. A quite brilliant start by Ross so look out for his best bets next weekend.

I'm delighted to say that Alan Potts, author of Against The Crowd and The Inside Track, will be giving his views from time to time on French imports this jumps season and he has highlighted one horse in particular to follow in 'Guest Contributions' which was uploaded late this afternoon.

Still in 'Guest Contributions' and although Gilles Simon couldn’t quite win the Moselle Open for Carl Redden as his pre-tournament 6/1 advice went down to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in a final-set decider, Carl has given his selections for ATP Kuala Lumpur and ATP Shenzen which are now in ‘Guest Contributions’. Also look out for Adam Hewson giving his political betting advice on Tuesday on the US Democratic and Republican nominations with an advice in the Democratic New Hampshire primary. Also please check out Paul Ferguson's Stable Tour where he gives details of trips to see Dan Skelton, Charlie Longsdon, Warren Greatrex, Jamie Snowden and Oliver Sherwood. I will be reviewing his book Jumpers To Follow in this blog later in the week. I will be covering The President’s Cup golf this week in ‘Sport’.

Onto the racing and I’ve given a little update in ‘Cheltenham Ante-Post’ looking back at September and just also a reminder that I will be covering Arc Day in ‘Race Previews’ on Saturday.

I didn’t have a penny on him returning to action from injury but I was impressed with an old friend in Cloonacool winning the £30K handicap hurdle at Market Rasen on Saturday and certainly do not concur with Tom O’Ryan who reported in The Racing Post that he won in workmanlike style. He just didn’t do a thing in front after travelling well throughout and making his ground easily to lead. Last season’s subscribers may recall that I passed on a message for the Boxing Day card at Kempton that he was well fancied by connections and won at 10/1 having been 20/1 in the morning but an injury at Newbury in February ended his season. The plan was to go chasing this term and still probably will be but, according to Paddy Brennan, he can win another handicap hurdle so it is likely that he will be kept to timber for a little longer. Good horse is this.

Man Of Harlech, who was my token value suggestion in Saturday’s blog at 25/1, sneaked into the frame in the Cambridgeshire so hopefully he attracted some of your each-way interest. Judged by the way he took a keen hold early on and then travelled strongly until tapped for toe and then ran on strongly, I would be interested in him when he is upped in trip again. That was his first run at longer than a mile.

Finally, I have to say how much I enjoyed The Sunday Forum on ATR yesterday morning which, for a change, was hosted in Ireland by Gary O’Brien with the excellent Kevin Blake as a pundit alongside David Jennings and Johnny Murtagh. For all the sense that Blake spoke it was Murtagh who was the star and I hope they decide to make an Irish version more regular.
