Honda Classic

27/2/16

After finding Bubba Watson at the half-way stage in my Saturday blog last week I thought I’d have crack at this weekend’s Honda Classic at the same juncture ahead of my first full-blown preview of the golf season for the WGC Championship at Doral on Wednesday. Rickie Fowler leads on -8 with Jimmy Walker on -7, Sergio Garcia on -6 and Adam Scott on -5. This high quality quartet should fight it out with rank outsiders at the start of the week sitting on -4 and -3. I priced it up as 9/4 Fowler, 3/1 Scott, 7/2 Garcia, 4/1 Walker 12/1 Everyone else combined, so have taken the 13/2 about both Scott and Garcia, though I'll be hiding behind the sofa every time this twitchy pair of putters is lining up a three-footer!

I’m guessing not many of you caught the Eurovision Making Your Mind Up show on BBC4 last night? I sat through it pulling all kinds of faces. I can tell you now that even without listening to any other entries that I will be looking to back the UK to finish last and especially to finish in the bottom four. Our lack of popularity apart, it’s just the weakest kind of bland pop you can imagine, just as bad and forgettable as the Pete Waterman-written drivel for Josh Dubovie in 2010 which finished last. Not quite as bad as Jemini and their nil points though but Josh and Jake were as flat as that duo in being voted in by public last night. My Eurovision preview will be uploaded as part of the All-Inclusive Service in May.

It’s the Oscars tomorrow. I’ve seen all three main contenders for Best Picture plus Bridge Of Spies which is also nominated and enjoyed Spotlight the most which has been displaced as favourite by The Revenant. Oscars betting is rather like Eurovision though, you have to know all the nuances of how the voting works rather than just going with what you enjoyed most. I don’t know enough about the Oscars voting nuances to have a strong opinion though.

There will be no Big Race Focus next Wednesday even if Cheltenham Racecourse have now moved their media day from that day to the following Monday so Victoria Pendleton's next ride in a hunter chase can be covered by the whole universe. I won't put in print what I blurted out loud when I found out. As for this weekend's Big Race Focus, remind me never to back Champagne West again but good to see the 20/1 each-way selection, Roc D'Apsis, run on into third.
