I’ll be heroically ploughing through the Cheltenham Friday card today to be uploaded around 4.00 p.m. having been struck down with a dose of man flu which is probably going to rule me out of a run at Prestbury Park on Saturday. The first race tomorrow is at noon and not 12.30 as stated in some papers. Andy Richmond’s latest weekly Trading Talk article is available to view in Guest Contributions where he has some interesting trainer stats as well as highlighting horses to follow. If you missed it, I also previewed the Caspian Gold Cup in Big Race Focus yesterday.
The debut for Willie Mullins of the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle talking horse, Min, the most talked about maiden from France since Joan of Arc as someone put it, is the main focal point at Punchestown (2.25) this afternoon where ATR have a busy day covering 28 races with RacingUK covering Warwick. In an interview broadcast on ATR this morning, Mullins commented that he was leaning towards bypassing the Lexus Chase with Djakadam so that race looks ripe for an ante-post punt. I’ll probably start on a race or two in next Wednesday’s Big Race Focus on some of the Christmas action.
The William Hill World Darts Championships starts a week today so Mike Henderson is taking a much-deserved break ahead of three weeks of solid darts copy in the Sport section as he’ll also be covering the BDO World Championships that follow straight afterwards. Mike knows his onions far more than I do on darts but I have my own views.
I was keen on Adrian Lewis, who is peaking at the right time again, to reach the final if he was drawn in the other half to Michael van Gerwen who is chasing a fifth straight TV title (MVG has the easiest of the four quarters) but, sadly that is to not be. The second quarter looks the most competitive featuring Lewis, Wright, Chisnall, Huybrechts and Suljovic but 5/2 about Lewis looks affair enough to me. I fancy Gary Anderson to come through the bottom half at the chief expense of Phil Taylor so my other ante-post bet is a Van Gerwen-Anderson final at 9/2.
